A Liturgical Gathering in an Apothecary

The apothecary was frequented by patients and customers, so gatherings there were unlikely to arouse suspicion. Son Gyeong-yun (Gervasius), Choe Pil-je (Peter), and others used the room at the back of the shop where acupuncture treatments were given as a place for liturgical gatherings. There, they prayed and studied Catholic doctrine with fellow believers. By turning an everyday space into a discreet gathering place for the community of faith, they kept the faith alive amid persecution.
