현경련 베네딕타

현경련 베네딕타는 1794년 서울에서 약재상을 하던 현계흠 플로로의 딸로 태어났다. 아버지는 1801년 신유박해 때 순교했고, 훗날 병오박해 때 순교한 현석문 가롤로는 그의 남동생이다. 그는 혼인했으나 남편과 일찍 사별한 뒤 정결과 기도에 힘쓰며 교회 일에 헌신하였다. 앵베르 주교는 그의 신앙과 판단력을 높이 평가해 여성 회장으로 임명했고, 현경련은 여성 교우들을 가르치고 가난하거나 병든 이들을 돌보며 선교사들의 사목을 도왔다. 그는 남편과 일찍 사별한 뒤 독서와 기도에 전념했고, 동생 현석문과 함께 성직자와 교우들을 보살폈다. 1839년 체포된 뒤 포도청에서 심한 형벌을 받으며 잠시 마음이 약해졌으나, 석방되지 못한 채 옥으로 돌아가 깊이 뉘우치고 신앙을 새롭게 고백하였다. 형리들은 동생 현석문의 행방을 대라고 강요했지만 그는 끝내 거부하였다. 옥중에서 동생에게 보낸 편지에는 신·망·애의 덕을 지키고 교회를 위해 맡은 일을 다하라는 권고가 담겼다. 1839년 12월 29일 서소문 밖에서 참수형으로 순교하였다.

Hyeon Gyeong-ryeon (Benedicta)

Hyeon Gyeong-ryeon, Benedicta, was born in 1794 into a family of interpreters in Seoul and was baptized as a child. After her father Hyeon Gye-heum, Florus, was martyred in 1801, she moved frequently with her mother. She married a son of Choe Chang-hyeon, John, but soon became a widow and returned to her family, devoting herself to prayer and reading. Appointed a woman catechist and leader, she served the Church and cared for Catholics together with her brother Hyeon Seok-mun, Charles. Arrested in June 1839, she refused under torture to reveal the bishop's refuge. After being widowed at a young age, she devoted herself to reading and prayer and cared for clergy and believers together with her brother Hyeon Seok-mun. In a prison letter to him she urged the practice of faith, hope, and charity and the faithful completion of the work entrusted for the Church. From prison she wrote to her brother about faith, hope, and charity, and she was beheaded outside the Small West Gate on December 29.

Hyeon Gyeong-ryeon (Benedicta)

Hyeon Gyeong-ryeon, Benedicta, nació en 1794 en una familia de intérpretes de Seúl y fue bautizada de niña. Después del martirio de su padre Hyeon Gye-heum, Floro, en 1801, vivió trasladándose frecuentemente con su madre. Se casó con un hijo de Choe Chang-hyeon, Juan, pero pronto quedó viuda y regresó a su familia, dedicándose a la oración y a la lectura. Nombrada catequista y responsable de mujeres, sirvió a la Iglesia y cuidó de los católicos junto con su hermano Hyeon Seok-mun, Carlos. Detenida en junio de 1839, se negó bajo tortura a revelar el refugio del obispo. Viuda desde joven, se dedicó a la lectura y la oración y cuidó de sacerdotes y fieles junto con su hermano Hyeon Seok-mun. En una carta escrita desde la cárcel le exhortó a practicar la fe, la esperanza y la caridad y a cumplir fielmente la tarea recibida para la Iglesia. Desde la cárcel escribió a su hermano sobre la fe, la esperanza y la caridad, y fue decapitada el 29 de diciembre.

玄敬連（本笃）

玄敬连，圣名本笃，1794年出生于汉城一个译官家庭，幼年领洗。1801年辛酉迫害中，父亲玄启钦弗洛罗殉道，此后她随母亲不断迁居。她嫁给崔昌显若望之子，不久守寡，回到娘家专心祈祷和读书。被任命为女会长后，她与弟弟玄锡文嘉禄一同服务教会、照顾教友。1839年6月被捕后，官差严刑逼问主教藏身处，她始终不屈。年轻守寡后，她专心阅读和祈祷，又与弟弟玄锡文一同照顾神职人员与教友。她在狱中写给弟弟的信里，劝勉他守住信、望、爱三德，忠实完成教会所托付的事工。她在狱中写信劝勉弟弟坚守信、望、爱三德，最终于12月29日在西小门外被斩首殉道。
